Flip Project Update: Two Room Reveals

Our 1961 flip has been full of surprises—some good, some "why is there a three-layer roof situation happening here?"—but the primary bathroom and laundry room? We absolutely knocked these rooms out of the park and, honestly, they set the vibe for this entire project. The mix of deep color, warm wood, and bold modern touches just felt right.

The Primary Bath: Going Bold with Dark Green

Can we just start by saying this bathroom is an absolute showstopper? We basically said "goodbye" to the original you-couldn't-turn-around floor plan and "hello" to a large open floor plan and primary bathroom closet en suite. From day one, we knew we were going full mid-century for our design style. We’d been crushing on dark green for a while, so bringing that in through the tile felt like the bold move we needed to anchor the space. And the black and white mosaic for the shower floor really makes a statement. We went with a gorgeous warm wood finish on the vanity and a pill-shaped mirror for the perfect fun accent. The lighter, neutral tile floor balances everything out and brass accents tie it all together.

The Laundry Room: Making Chores Feel Like a Moment

Our goal was to make this space feel elevated. Like a cozy den at a swanky mountain resort. Functionality in such a small space was very important. We decided to go dark and bold, starting with the rich, moody brown cabinets. The midtone wood slat wall behind the bench brought in that natural element we needed, and then we chose a plaid fabric for the custom bench seat—something with pattern and playfulness to keep it from feeling too serious. Under-bench storage for shoes and a stackable washer and dryer give it the functional punch it needed.

The fun element that everyone's obsessing over? We took an old hall closet off the laundry room and turned it into this built-in cabinet moment, with extra storage plus an open counter area for—wait for it—a record player. Because folding laundry and listening to music should always go together.

Learnings Along the Way

There were definitely some moments that were equal parts chaos and fun. Like, we spent way too much time debating tile patterns on the floor. Literally laying them out, changing our minds a million times, and then finally just going with our gut.

Flipping a house is no easy task, and honestly, you need to have fun with it or you'll drive yourself absolutely crazy and it'll feel like a total nightmare. We've learned so much about our process along the way, and it's still not perfect—this project was a real test of that. But that's kind of the beauty of it all. The takeaway: Mix styles, take risks, and let things evolve as you go. Nothing has to be super polished to feel special or intentional.
